It’s been more than a month since Real Monarchs earned its first win of the USL regular season, and Monarchs supporters are still waiting for more momentum from head coach Freddy Juarez’s group.

If it’s going to happen in June, it needs to happen tonight.

The Monarchs (1-6-4) are in last place in USL’s Western Conference, and will look to stop Vancouver Whitecaps 2 (3-4-3) from moving its winning streak to three-straight games Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT at Rio Tinto Stadium.

You can preview the match with comments from Juarez, goalkeeper Eric Osswald and midfielder Lucas Baldin courtesy the Monarchs’ media department here.

Real Salt Lake’s third-division affiliate isn’t coming off a complete lack of momentum, though. After bowing out in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, the Monarchs turned around to earn a point at Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday. Max Rauhofer’s first-half goal gave the Monarchs the lead, and Osswald stopped a 35th-minute penalty kick to help the visitors earn a vital road points against the defending USL champions.

Rauhofer, who leads the USL with 3.83 shots per game, has scored four of the Monarchs’ 10 goals this year for a team that is averaging 0.91 goals per game. The club is also only giving up 1.64 goals per game — in other words, the goals scored have come in many of the most inopportune moments.

Whitecaps 2, meanwhile, is coming off back-to-back wins over Arizona United on May 31 and a home win over the Monarchs on May 24 at British Columbia’s Thunderbird Stadium. Vancouver out-shot Arizona 19-6 last weekend, and held United to only one attempt on frame.

The match will air via tape-delay on KMYU at 11 p.m., or you can watch online through the embedded video player above and on Real Monarchs’ YouTube channel. Here are the ways to follow Wednesday night’s match.
